Star Sports Bet is the flagship betting brand of Star Racing Limited and one of the clearest platform links to AK Bets. We’re not sure why the brand is divided in this way, and can’t help but feel that it must play havoc with search engine results. That’s not our concern, though. Star Racing began in 1999 before adopting the Star Sports name in 2009, and the brand claims to be the biggest luxury bookmaker in the UK. We’re not sure about that, but it certainly covers far more betting options than your average sports betting company and even allows wagers to be placed on political and other matters.
McBookie
McBookie isn’t the official iGaming or betting site of McDonald’s, as amusing an idea as that might be. Instead, it’s a sports betting company with Scottish roots, and has been around since 2009. That gives it approaching 20 years of experience, which means it must be getting something right. We include McBookie among the AK Bets sister sites because it once shared the Playbook platform used by AK Bets, although that connection is now a historic one. McBookie has since moved to Altenar technology and is operated by Playquarry Limited under its own UK Gambling Commission licence. The brand’s Scottish origins are reflected not only in its name and the blue background of its homepage but also in the “about us” section of the website. London Bet joined the wider AK Bets family in 2025, although the relationship here is based on technology rather than ownership. The site is operated by Thistle Bet Limited under its UK Gambling Commission licence, but it uses the same Playbook platform that sits behind AK Bets. That shared machinery is easy to spot once you start clicking around. London Bet is built primarily for sports bettors, with football and horse racing given plenty of room, but there’s also a casino section covering slots, live dealer games and other familiar options. AK Bets Welcome Promotions
AK Bets has two sports welcome promotions to choose from, both of which are built around giving your first bet a little extra value rather than handing you a conventional matched-deposit bonus. AK Bets is clearly an ambitious brand. It wouldn’t have made it from trackside to the internet in less than two years if it wasn’t. The current version of the site is also a better proposition than its rather basic appearance might suggest, with proper welcome offers, daily rewards, real-time customer support and withdrawal methods that can produce same-day payouts. The weak Trustpilot score is difficult to ignore, though, and AK Bets still doesn’t have the polish or sheer scale of the biggest names in the UK sports betting scene.
